Mr. Bernardo Hernández

A new technologies entrepreneur and investor, Bernardo graduated in Economics and Business Studies from Comillas Pontifical University - ICADE, and has a master’s in Finance from Boston College. He is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) and honorary doctor in Technology from Camilo José Cela University. 

He began his career as an analyst and asset manager in companies such as Fidelity Investments, BBVA and Putnam Investments. In 2000 he founded his first start-up, idealista.com. Since then, he has been a business angel for other companies, such as Tuenti, Wallapop, Glovo, Paack, Closca, Index, Fever, Verse, Floresfrescas.com and 11870.com.

In 2005 he joined Google as Marketing director for Spain, moving to San Francisco in 2007 to take on various global responsibilities in Google’s management team. In 2011 he moved to New York as general manager of Zagat guides. He was CEO of Flickr and senior vice-president of Product for Yahoo from 2013 until summer 2015, and chairman and member of the Board of Directors of Bodaclick.com between 2009 and 2014. Currently, he is a venture partner of the German venture capital fund e.ventures, executive chairman of Citibox and executive chairman of Verse, Inc.

He has sat on the Board of Directors of Mapfre USA in Boston since 2018, and between 2016 and 2018 was also a member of the Board of Desigual in Barcelona.

He is a member of the Board of the James Beard Foundation in New York and of the Advisory Council of the Franklin Institute in Spain. He is also honorary trustee of Spain Startup, and a trustee of the Museo ABC Foundation. Since 2011 he has served on the jury for the Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research and the jury for the Princess of Girona Foundation Award and is a member of its Advisory Council. In addition, he sits on the Advisory Council for the 8th Centennial of the University of Salamanca, and on the Advisory Council for the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution and on the Innovation Council of the Spanish Ministry of Justice.

In 2009 he won the Banesto Foundation’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the prize for most outstanding professional career from the ICADE Association. For ten consecutive years he has appeared on the list of the 25 most influential people on the Internet in Spain published by the newspaper El Mundo, and he has been named as one of the world’s 20 most influential Latinos in technology by the magazine CNET. In 2013 he was named GQ magazine’s Man of the Year for his entrepreneurial work in technology, and in 2016 he won the El Norte de Castillae-volución award for the most outstanding achievement in the world of new technologies.
