Four Girona Entities are Promoting the new Prince of Girona Foundation

Its Honorary President will be Felipe de Borbón and its mission will be to promote social and educational activities for young people

27/06/2009

Felipe de Borbón, Prince of Asturias and of Girona, will be the Honorary President of a Foundation in the Girona area which will devote itself to promoting social activities, education and training for young people. It will be called the Prince of Girona Foundation and it has been promoted by the Girona Chamber of Commerce, Caixa Girona, the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation and la Caixa. The Foundation's Honorary Vice-President will be the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, José Montilla.

Yesterday the four founding entities formally presented the proposal to Felipe de Borbón at a lunch which took place at the residence of the Prince and Princess and which was attended by the presidents of the Chamber of Commerce, Domènec Espadalé; of Caixa Girona, Arcadi Calzada; of the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation, Ramon Boixadós, and of La Caixa, Isidre Fainé, as well as by the Board Member of La Caixa Leopoldo Rodés.

The new foundation will not be similar to the Prince of Asturias Foundation, which awards prizes of acknowledged prestige each year. The function of the Prince of Girona Foundation will be of a more social character and addressed to youth, helping to face the new challenges of the 21st century. In this respect, the four founding entities announced in a press release that the Foundation's goals will be "the projection of social activities in the broadest sense, the promotion of education and the training of youth, both in Catalonia and in Spain at large". One of its aims is to hold forums of discussion on social issues.
