FPdGi Scientific and academic Award, ex aequo, for his contribution in the field of cardiology research

Borja Ibáñez (Madrid, 1975) graduated in Medicine from the Complutense University of Madrid, and holds a PhD from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He combines mixed research activity as group leader at the Carlos III National Centre for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC), where he is also director of the Clinical Research Department, with work as a cardiologist at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation University Hospital. His main focus is the diagnosis and treatment of myocardial diseases, searching for new therapeutic targets in the laboratory and later testing them on patients. He has led different clinical trials that have tested therapies discovered by his group in the laboratory. He is the chairman of the European Society of Cardiology’s clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of patients with acute myocardial infarction. Years after receiving the FPdGi Award for Scientific Research, he also received other prestigious awards, in particular the Banco Sabadell Foundation’s Biomedical Research Award.
