Elena Medel Navarro, 2016 FPdGi Arts and Literature Award

Medel has been chosen for her early and brilliant career as a poet

Elena Medel was born in Cordoba in 1985, and currently resides in Madrid. She is the author of three books of poetry, republished together in the anthology Un día negro en una casa de mentira (Visor, 2015), and the essays El mundo mago. Cómo vivir con Antonio Machado (Ariel, 2015) and Todo lo que hay que saber sobre poesía (Ariel, 2018). Her first book of poetry has been published in English (My First Bikini, translated by Lizzie Davis; Jai Alai Books, 2015), and several of her poems have been translated into over a dozen languages. She runs the poetry publisher La Bella Varsovia and coordinates the ‘Cien de cien’project to raise awareness of the work of twentieth-century Spanish poets. Among other awards, she won the 26th Loewe Foundation International Poetry Prize for Young Poets and the Princess of Girona Foundation Arts and Literature Award.
