Pygmalion

Programme for educational integration through sport and arts.

The ultimate aim of the Programme Project is to increase the basic educational competences of the participants (minors at risk of exclusion aged between 6 and 16 years old) through a system of personal and family tutors and encouraging the children to take up sport.

The programme was launched in 2012 in Girona and has since been extended to L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Sant Boi de Llobregat, in Barcelona, and to Madrid. The project is supported by the charities Caritas Diocesana de Girona and the SER.GI Foundation, and the award-winning organisations the Itaca Association, the Marianao Foundation and the Balia Foundation. The plan is to seek the collaboration of the educational community (educational centres, sports clubs, after-school support groups, etc.) as a fundamental stakeholder in developing this project.

Since September 2015, an arts coaching pilot programme has been run in the city of Badalona, in collaboration with Ateneu Sant Roc, the Pere Closa Foundation, Barres i Ones Secondary School, Badalonès School and with the support of the “la Caixa“ Foundation.

With regard to the recipients, the programme aims are to increase their basic educational competences, reduce the rate of school dropouts and increase their resources and social skills.

The central element of the FPdGi programme are the tutors, who act as professionals that coordinate and promote an overall intervention plan to introduce sport as a pedagogical option that helps tackle educational, family and social challenges. The intervention plan involves different activities (extra support lessons, tutoring with families, a grant system and programme of regular sporting activities).
