Athlete and Paralympic gold medallist

Teresa Perales Fernández (Zaragoza, 1975) is one of the most outstanding sportswomen in the history of the Paralympic Games. After losing mobility from the waist down at the age of 19 as a result of a neuropathy she took up swimming, a discipline in which she has won 22 Paralympic medals in four Olympic Games (Sidney, Athens, Beijing and London) and numerous national, European and world championships. She has also been recognised with the Royal Order of Sports Merit and the Juan Palau Award for Sportsperson of the year 2012. She has written, together with her husband, her autobiography, which is entitled Mi vida sobre ruedas (‘My Life on Wheels’, published byLa esfera de los libros, 2007).
