Physicist and researcher Eleonora Viezzer, 2022 FPdGi Scientific Research Award

The winner was chosen for her contribution to tackling the global energy problem using nuclear fusion.

27/04/2022

jury of experts chose Viezzer for her contribution to tackling the global energy problem using nuclear fusion. Her project focuses on developing high-confinement and fluctuation-free fusion plasma to avoid the loss of particles that would damage the reactor walls.

The jury also highlighted the importance of the project coordinated by Viezzer, as fusion has the potential to cover the global population’s energy needs and can provide a source of clean, safe and viable energy to guarantee energy supply for future generations.

The jury was chaired by Rosa Menéndez, president of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and formed of Daniel Ramon Vidal, biologist; Rolf Tarrach, physicist and rector emeritus of the University of Luxembourg; Guadalupe Sabio, researcher at CSIC and 2012 FPdGi Scientific Research Award winner, and Samuel Sánchez, researcher at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalunya (IBEC) and 2015 FPdGi Scientific Research Award winner, who acted as secretary.
