The Prince and the Princess of Asturias and Girona presented the Prince of Girona Foundation in the Basque Country, within a series of public activities to introduce the Foundation. This is the third that was celebrated, after the one that took place in Seville, the past 12 February, and in Zaragoza on 25 of the same month of February.
At their arrival to the Palacio de Congresos y de la Música Euskalduna, the Prince and the Princess of Asturias were received for the Lehendakary basque Patxi López, the President of the Basque Parliament Arantza Quiroga, the representative of the government in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country Miguel Ángel Cabieces, the mayor of Bilbao Iñaki Azkuna and the President of the Prince of Girona Foundation Antoni Esteve.
Subsequently, they received greetings from representatives of the Iberdrola Foundation and the BBVA, both members of the Board of Trustees of the Prince of Girona Foundation, the keynote speaker, former European Commissioner, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria and member of the Prince of Girona Foundation Advisory Council, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, the vice-chairmen of the Prince of Girona Foundation, Josep Lagares and Jaime Carvajal, and the Director of the Palacio Euskalduna, Ion Ortuzar.
In the course of the act, took part the mayor of Bilbao, the president of the Prince of Girona Foundation and the lehendakari Patxi López that intervened to value and assume from the Basque Country the goals that the Foundation promotes.
The main speech was dictated by the European ex-commissioner, ex-minister of Foreign Matters of Austria and member of the Advisory Council of the Prince of Girona Foundation, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, that offered a magisterial lesson "How to create illusion to our youngsters".
Finally, the Prince of Asturias and of Girona highlight the objectives of the Foundation, "our priority area is the youth: support the youth in their education; being center of reflection and of their restlessness; fostering their appointment and participation in the public life; promoting values that inspire their behavior as citizens; helping them to assume the leadership of their own destiny with security and initiative".
