Girona, 13 December 2010. The Prince of Girona Foundation (PGF) will be welcoming Mònica Margarit and Salvador Maneu as General Director and Technical General Director, respectively. The Foundation’s Board of Trustees approved their appointments at this afternoon’s meeting, which was held in Madrid and chaired by the Prince and the Princess of Asturias and of Girona.  With the arrival of Mònica Margarit and Salvador Maneu, the Foundation takes an ambitious step forward in its quest to become a leading organization in promoting the progress and talent of youth and its action in the social field. Indeed, it seeks to become a global platform, building an attractive environment in which the young people of today can develop their talent.

Mònica Margarit (Barcelona, 1964) is a graduate in Romance Philology at the University of Barcelona (UB). She has worked throughout her career in the university sphere. After a period as a researcher at the Ministry of Education and Science, she joined the University of Barcelona, where she took on increasing responsibilities, being appointed Director for International Development in 2005. In 2008, she was appointed Director of the public foundation Universidad.es, where she has been working until now.

Consequently, she has always worked in close connection with youth affairs and is well acquainted with the functioning of foundations and their diverse management models. In her new position as General Director of the Prince of Girona Foundation, Mònica Margarit will help to strengthen the Foundation’s action, develop its action plan and promote its projects.

Salvador Maneu (Girona, 1970) is a Law graduate at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) with a Master’s degree in International Studies at the CIDOB Foundation-UAB. He has devoted his entire career to projects connected with social issues. Aside from cooperating with numerous foundations and other institutions, he has focused his activity on two organizations: the Red Cross and Caritas Diocesana. In 2003 he joined Caritas Diocesana of Girona as General Secretary, the position which he has held until now.

Salvador Maneu has devoted his career to social projects and his experience, sensitivity and commitment to the most disadvantaged collectives will be of key assistance in achieving PGF’s founding goals.

The Prince of Girona Foundation

The Foundation’s mission is to support the training and development of young people in order to strengthen the new generations’ capacity to build a better and more solidary society, on the one hand, and to attend to the social problems in our area, on the other, seeking ways to assist and promote the most vulnerable and least prosperous collectives, with special attention to youth.

To carry out this mission, the Foundation works in four spheres: science and academics, culture and sport, social affairs and cooperation, and business.
