In 2002, Garrotxa Secondary School Institute introduced educational robotics, which prompted the birth of Robolot with a view to encouraging both a spirit of technological research among young people and a very practical and fun education, and to awaken a technological vocation among secondary (ESO) and pre-university (Higher Secondary Education and Vocational Training) students. 10 years later, the competition has become the main educational robotics event in secondary education in Catalonia.
This year, the Prince of Girona Foundation has signed an agreement with Robolot for henceforth to organise the competition on a joint basis. The contest has expanded its horizons and this year will include participants from Madrid, Malaga and Salamanca.
Robolot will be held on 15 and 16 October in Olot to coincide with the Fira de Sant Lluc trade fair. A hundred or so secondary students from over 30 different centres of education will take part at Robolot 2011, the events of which will take place over 2 days.
