The Prince and the Princess of Asturias and of Girona present the Foundation in Barcelona

The Prince and the Princess have presented the Prince of Girona Foundation at the Oval Hall of the National Art Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona

15/12/2011

Held on December 14, 2011, the presentation was attended by the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Artur Mas; Spain's Minister of Education, Ángel Gabilondo; the Mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias, and the President of the Parliament of Catalonia, Núria de Gispert, among other authorities. Also present at the event was the Foundation's President, Antoni Esteve, who was accompanied by members of the Board of Trustees and numerous Catalan businessmen, as well as other representatives of the socioeconomic community. A number of figures from the university sphere were also in attendance, including university rectors and their  governance teams.

The Mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias, was in charge of welcoming the people in attendance. During the event, the Rector of the University of Luxembourg, Rolf Tarrach, gave the conference entitled "Youth, between Education and Work". Indeed, a large group of young professionals, businesspeople and students filled the Oval Hall of the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC). The President of the Generalitat added that  "it is in the hands of everyone to change our attitudes". Spain's Minister of Education, Ángel Gabilondo, pointed out that training is very important in the promotion of new employment opportunities for young people, although unnecessary paternalisms should be avoided. The Prince of Asturias and of Girona closed the event with a speech highlighting the firm beliefs and sentiments that inspire the Foundation, which seeks "to value the ideas of others and respect their feelings, and to solve differences by means of dialogue and a constructive attitude, combined with an entrepreneurial spirit."

Before the presentation was held, the Foundation's Board of Trustees approved the Action Plan for the year 2012. In accordance with this plan, the Foundation will promote its own projects, participate in alliances with other institutions and provide support to actions set within its framework of activity. The Action Plan for 2012 has four main strategic lines: the promotion of the entrepreneurial spirit; of employability and  occupational integration; of education and school success, and of career choices and talent. The broad set of actions envisaged for the coming year include the annual holding of the IMPULSA Forum, based on the firm belief that the entrepreneurial attitude, creativity and innovation are three fundamental factors for the generation of opportunities for young people, and  the IMPULSA Awards, which acknowledge the projects and initiatives of excellence led by young people in the Foundation's various fields of activity
